Q&A
Is this for me?
This programme is designed for mid-career Product Designers with who want to:
- get promoted
- become more strategic
- strengthen their portfolio or case studies
- improve stakeholder communication
- prepare for interviews
- learn from experienced design leaders
- become more confident in their role
If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, apply anyway. We’ll review every application personally.
I'm currently looking for a job. Is this still relevant?
Yes.
Many of the topics—portfolio storytelling, presenting business impact, interview preparation and career strategy—are just as valuable if you’re preparing for your next role as they are if you’re aiming for promotion.
During your application you’ll tell us your goals, and Bill will tailor feedback accordingly.
What kind of challenges can I bring?
Anything you’re currently dealing with at work or in your career.
For example:
- “I want to get promoted to Senior/Lead.”
- “I’m struggling to influence stakeholders.”
- “I don’t know how to demonstrate business impact.”
- “I’d like feedback on my portfolio or case study.”
- “I’m trying to introduce AI into my workflow.”
- “I’m preparing for interviews.”
- “I want to become a Design Lead.”
Every session is driven by the group’s real challenges, not generic slides.
What happens during the live sessions?
Each week you’ll join a small group of 5–10 designers.
You’ll discuss real workplace challenges, ask questions, share work, receive feedback and learn from both Bill and the rest of the cohort.
Think of it as a mastermind with an experienced design leader facilitating the discussion.
Will I receive personalised feedback?
Yes.
Every participant receives:
- a private 1-to-1 session with Bill
- personalised career recommendations
- feedback on your portfolio, case study or workplace challenge
- an action plan to continue your development after the programme
Who is Bill?
Bill is a Creative Director and Product Design Leader with 25+ years of experience creating digital products and brand experiences.
He has worked with organisations including Ford Europe, Boots, Manchester United, Paul Smith, Novartis, McDonalds and more.
Rather than teaching theory, Bill will coach you through real workplace situations using examples from his own experience.
Will everyone be at a similar level?
Yes.
We’ll review every application before confirming your place.
Our goal is to create a group of designers with similar experience levels and career ambitions so that discussions remain relevant for everyone.
Is this another online course?
No.
There are no pre-recorded videos or long theory sessions.
Every meeting is live, interactive and based on the challenges participants bring that week.
What if I can't attend one of the sessions?
Sessions will be recorded for participants.
However, the biggest value comes from asking questions and receiving live feedback, so we strongly encourage attending all four sessions.
Why is this programme discounted?
This is our founding pilot cohort.
We’re working closely with a small group of designers to refine the programme before launching future cohorts.
In return for your honest feedback, you’ll receive early access at a reduced price.
Why not just use ADPList or ChatGPT?
Free mentoring and AI tools are excellent for quick answers.
Growth Lab is different because it combines consistent guidance from an experienced mentor, a carefully matched peer group, and structured accountability over four weeks. Instead of one-off advice, you’ll work through real career challenges, apply feedback between sessions, and leave with a personalised action plan.
